Native American Indian tribes inhabited this land for thousands of years. The Lewis and Clark expedition of 1805 was the first up-close look at Idaho, and their descriptions of this fruitful land caused great interest in the east. Trading post were established, fur trappers arrived, and settlers by the thousands crossed the land - as they followed the Oregon Trail. Rich finds of gold and silver were commonplace, towns grew into cities, ranches into farms, and the focus soon turned to agriculture.
